Just a note that I am cancelling class this Thursday and Saturday because we’ll be in Boston for the Head of the Charles Regatta.

Apologies for any inconvenience! Stay tuned for a short series idea and playlist to rock out to in your home practice.

turning it upside down

Do you ever find yourself getting stuck in a rut?  What does that even mean?  I like to think of a needle in a groove on a record that sounds good at first, but gets stuck in that same endless loop (that after awhile starts to drive you out of your head and visibly wears down the vinyl).  How do you break free?

When I feel myself starting to get worn down from a cycle that I can’t seem to break it I have to change my perspective; do something different.  Maybe that’s trying a different beverage at the coffee shop, wearing a color when you normally stick to a uniform of blue, black and grey (ahem), or shaking up your yoga practice a bit.  Instead of following the traditional surya b template, why not flow from a high lunge into reverse warrior?  Warrior 1 to warrior 2 facing the back of your mat, weaving a mandala into your practice?  Or, simply, turn it upside down!  Turning upside down is an antidote to fear and “stuck” energy.  Try headstand, l-shaped handstand if you’re breaking free of the cycle of fear, or perhaps a supported shoulderstand if you’re feeling extra depleted.

What can you do different to break free?

join us.  maybe we’ll be turning it upside-down.

what’s in a name?

What is in a name?  If any of you have ever thought about naming a child, a pet, or a business then I’m sure you understand what I am talking about.  Deciding on a name for our son was an incredibly difficult decision.  We had it narrowed down to a couple, but felt like we needed to see him, hold him, hear him in order to give him this thing that would be attached to him for the rest of his life – his introduction to the world and those around him, what he identifies with.  So we had it narrowed down to a couple of options and after he was born it was a split second decision – and now we couldn’t think of calling him anything else.

So what goes into the naming of a business (yes – that seems quite unyogalike, but that it what it is)?  An idea or feeling that you would like to convey, that expresses the underlying truth of what you are sharing with the world ….  in my recent experience a lot of thought, reflection, and “not quites.”

So without further ado, here it is – the name of this place in our world and the joy that I hope to share with you:
